Biden's New Executive Order
Biden recently produced a new executive order that will strengthen the use of domestic products and manufacturing in the United States. This executive order will be building upon the efforts of Trump, as both presidents have sought to consolidate key markets. Specifically, Biden is reviewing the country's ability to supply COVID-19 medical supplies, technology, and rare earth metals for electronics. The executive order has two objectives.
The first objective is to boost the manufacturing sector in the United States. This sector is especially important for the Midwest, as it employs a solid majority of people in that region. The second objective is for national security purposes. The United States is trying to decrease the reliance on other countries for key materials. This is especially important given the increased tensions between the United States and import countries like China.
The Federal Acquisition Regulatory Council (FAR council) will review the materials that are to be amended, allowing for the public to comment on new regulations. This review period will last 180 days after the executive order.
While we are not yet sure about the exact materials or component requirements, the public can stay updated through reviewing the government website. JUSDA will keep an eye on the happenings of this executive order and periodically update on our website.
